[Abstract]

ObjectiveAdiponectin is an insulin-sensitizing hormone secreted by adipocytes.Levels of adiponectin are inversely associated with insulin resistance.Because insulin resistance is related to the incidence of many tumors,including colorectal cancer,then adiponectin may be one carcinogenic factor for colorectal cancer.The study was designed to evaluate the association between adiponectin level and the clinicopathlogical variables of colorectal cancer.MethodsThe cancer group contained 30 patients with colorectal cancer,and the controls selected 24healthy.Patients of cancer group took the preoperative examination of CEA and CA199.The adiponectin level in serum is examined though the double antibody sandwich ABC-ELISA.All specimens were examined K-ras,P53,APC and DCC gene through RT-PCR.ResultsAdiponectin level in cancer group(7.5mg/L(4.8-9.1)mg/L)is lower than control (15.8mg/L(13.1-18.2)mg/L),p?0.001.As tumor TNM stage increased,adiponectin showed decreasing tendency gradually.Adiponectin is not correlated to serum CEA and CA199(p?0.05).Adiponectin is correlated to oncogene K-ras(p?0.05),but not to anti-oncogene P53,APC,or DCC(p?0.05).ConclusionsLow level adiponectin in human serum may correlate to the incidence and development of colorectal cancer,the lower adiponectin,the worse prognosis.And K-ras mutation may play a role in this process.
