How Agents and Realtors Can Improve Search Engine Rankings for ...
By? John Highman
As we all know the internet is fast becoming the main and best way to advertise commercial and residential property for sale or lease. Given that all real estate agents are using the same promotional method on the internet, we now need to give solid attention to search engine rankings if we want to be seen as a credible and relevant real estate specialist in the local area.
Why Do It?
In most cases, real estate is searched and sold on a location basis. The buyer will look for property based on location first and type of property second. The same applies to tenants. Your primary goal should therefore be to rank on the first page of Google when someone puts your city and suburb plus ?real estate? into the search engine. Try it yourself now and see what happens.
Almost all agents have a website and are likely to be happy with the way it looks and works. There are a couple of other steps that can be taken in addition to your website, that are free and very effective. So let?s look at them.
The Choice
First and foremost you must decide whether you want to improve your office name or your personal name on the internet. It really just depends on if you run your own business or work for another person. Make the choice and then go to the next step.
The Next Step
The most effective ways to add to your selected image (office or personal) on the internet is through:
1. Article Marketing, and
2. Writing Blogs
Like it or not, these tools really do work very well to improve your ranking on the search engines when used in conjunction to the other standard website and internet marketing methods. They should both be done together, and they are both free.
When you use these together with the other things you already do, the internet will see you more and rank you higher. Search engines love article marketing and blogs, it?s that simple.
Now something needs to be said here that will stop some of you immediately, and if that is the case then that is fine (it narrows the field for those that choose to continue). The process I am talking about here requires daily focus on writing and posting a few things. It will take you up to a couple of hours per day (or at least one hour). The best time to do this is in the morning before you leave to go to the office. You will need to use a computer and be somewhat proficient at putting words together on local relevant real estate subjects; you have to be creative.
If those factors are something you cannot handle and find in your day then do not proceed down this path. For those that want to continue with this strategy, simply seek out one or more high ranking article marketing sites and blog sites, become a member of both, read their rules and start writing about real estate in your area.
There are more strategies that can be implemented in each of these processes mentioned and that knowledge will come to you when you get used to taking consistent action in writing and posting to the web. Over time these tools will make a major difference in search engine visibility for you or your real estate business.

SANFORD, Fla. (AP) ? An elderly couple has reached a settlement with Spike Lee after the pair said they had to leave their Florida home after the director help spread a Twitter posting listing their address as that of the man who shot an unarmed teen.
The couple's attorney, Matt Morgan, announced the settlement Thursday. Morgan says Lee called them to apologize for retweeting their address. Specifics of the settlement weren't disclosed.
Elaine and David McClain are in their 70s and say they have a son named William George Zimmerman, who lived in their Sanford area home in the mid-1990s. They say he is no relation to 28-year-old George Zimmerman, who killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin on Feb. 26.
The killing has touched off widespread protests around the country and expressions of outrage ? including from Lee and other celebrities ? because Zimmerman was not arrested. The neighborhood watch volunteer has said he acted in self-defense.
"At this point in time, we have come to an agreement with Spike Lee and his attorneys, and at this point, the matter is fully resolved," Morgan said. "Spike has agreed to compensate the McClains for their loss and for the disruption into their lives. He's taken full responsibility."
Lee tweeted late Wednesday: "I Deeply Apologize To The McClain Family For Retweeting Their Address. It Was A Mistake. Please Leave The McClain's In Peace."
Morgan added that Lee also called the McClains to apologize personally.
"He was really kind," Elaine McClain said. "And when he called us, you could just tell he really felt bad about it. And it was just a slip, and I just know that he really, really has been concerned."
No one answered at a telephone listing for a production company for Lee in New York after business hours Thursday.

96% Pariah
"Pariah," from first-time writer/director Dee Rees, doesn't break much artistic ground. It tells the same gay/lesbian coming-out story that we've seen a million times. But it's told particularly well and from within a black urban context, which I don't believe has been done before. It also goes a bit deeper into the hearts and minds of the homophobic parents than typically is done, which was great. Unfortunately, it only scratches those surfaces. Kim Wayans, who of course has a long history in comedy, shows she has major dramatic talent, playing the homophobic mother of the main character. The cast is universally good, but Wayans is the stand-out. The main character is a black teenage girl in Brooklyn going through the coming-out process. She has fully come out to herself as a lesbian, and she has even found her way into a lesbian circle of friends. She even frequents a women's night club. But she hasn't told Mom or Dad about any of this, both of whom are homophobic. Mom is particularly venomous in her hatred of gays and lesbians. You can see that Dad, a detective in the NYPD, in his heart of hearts is not a bigot. Thrown into the mix to complicate things a little bit is a bisexual girl eager to have lesbian experiences to explore herself. But she tosses lesbians aside like useless candy wrappers after she's had her fun. If I were going to give Dee Rees advice, I would say this: Ms. Rees, in "Pariah" you started digging into the parent characters with some real psychological and artistic depth. I encourage you to go more deeply in that direction. I think your true gifts as an artist lie there. I would give anything to see a sequel where you explore what happened to that mother and what she's really fighting. You hint that her husband is beginning to stray, but I think there's more in there. Help us see it. Remember when that great schoolteacher tells Alike that she could "go deeper" with her poetry? You could go deeper with your films. I know you could.

Game of the Week: Final Fantasy VIII | Video Games, Reviews ...
Final Fantasy VIII was released for the Playstation in 1999. This entry in the renowned RPG series courted controversy, and continues to do so. It seems to play with the foundations of how a Final Fantasy game should work, perhaps a push too far in an attempt to be original. This has led the title to be both loved and hated in equal measure. Let?s take a closer look at just what has resulted in this divided opinion.
One of several innovations to the Final Fantasy mechanics is the junctioning system. Oddly, levelling on its own is more of a hindrance than a help. This is due to the fact that the myriad of opponents you?ll face in the game take on levels equal to your party. The stat boosts they gain while earning experience in this way are vastly superior to your own. Which of course leaves you terribly humbled in comparison. This is quite a departure for the grinding-happy genre, and remains a real bone of contention among players. It does not mean, however, that you can?t create an overpowered uber-party if you wish to. This is where the odd notion of junctioning comes in.
Junctioning begins with your GFs. These are Guardian Forces, the summon monsters of Final Fantasy VIII. Each one must essentially be equipped to a party member. When they are summoned to attack, they will not require MP but take a short time to materialize. During this period, their own HP will replace that of the character and will take the brunt of any assault aimed at them. GFs are lesser party members in their own right, learning a wide range of abilities to power up your fighters. Each of your character?s stats are tied to a certain ability. As each is learned, you can equip a spell from your arsenal to that stat in the Junction menu. Choosing the appropriate magic is the best way to build your combat strength. A healing spell linked to HP, for example, will grant a huge boost to your health.
The subject of magic marks another jarring change for veteran questers. MP is not used, instead magic is either acquired from enemies using the Draw command or refined from items. Each method grants you a certain number of the spell in question, up to a total of 100. This indicates the amount of uses of the spell you have stocked. A greater number also increases the effect of a junctioned spell on the related stat.
All of these are cited as contributing factors in Final Fantasy VIII?s notoriety. Continuing a successful series is always a delicate balancing act for developers, particularly with a franchise as beloved as this. Changing too much will often lead to an outcry, while the other route can yield accusations of staleness. Damned if you do, damned if you don?t.
With that said, the Playstation triumvirate of Final Fantasy VII, VIII and IX are some of my favourite games of all time. I?d say VIII was the oddball, black sheep of the family, but I found it just as engaging. The storyline was a highlight for me, I enjoyed Squall Leonheart?s journey from antisocial teenager to reluctant hero. There are so many memorable moments, ranging from fighting the hundred-feet-tall Jumbo Cactaur to the reunion with Rinoa aboard the Ragnarok. In a similar case to Super Mario Sunshine, some will agree with me and welcomed the changes, while others hated the game. Ultimately, it?s for the individual player to decide. Still, an entry in a popular franchise that dares to mix things up should perhaps be celebrated on its own merits, alongside the damaging comparisons being drawn.

A shiny new tool for imaging biomolecules

DOE/Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
Berkeley Lab researchers embed artificial membranes with billions of nanoantennas for enhanced optical studies
At the heart of the immune system that protects our bodies from disease and foreign invaders is a vast and complex communications network involving millions of cells, sending and receiving chemical signals that can mean life or death. At the heart of this vast cellular signaling network are interactions between billions of proteins and other biomolecules. These interactions, in turn, are greatly influenced by the spatial patterning of signaling and receptor molecules. The ability to observe signaling spatial patterns in the immune and other cellular systems as they evolve, and to study the impact on molecular interactions and, ultimately, cellular communication, would be a critical tool in the fight against immunological and other disorders that lead to a broad range of health problems including cancer. Such a tool is now at hand.
Researchers with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) and the University of California (UC) Berkeley, have developed the first practical application of optical nanoantennas in cell membrane biology. A scientific team led by chemist Jay Groves has developed a technique for lacing artificial lipid membranes with billions of gold "bowtie" nanoantennas. Through the
phenomenon known as "plasmonics," these nanoantennas can boost the intensity of a fluorescent or Raman optical signal from a protein passing through a plasmonic "hot-spot" tens of thousands of times without the protein ever being touched."Our technique is minimally invasive since enhancement of optical signals is achieved without requiring the molecules to directly interact with the nanoantenna," Groves says. "This is an important improvement over methods that rely on adsorption of molecules directly onto antennas where their structure, orientation, and behavior can all be altered."
Groves holds joint appointments with Berkeley Lab's Physical Biosciences Division and UC Berkeley's Chemistry Department, and is also a Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator. He is the corresponding author of a paper that reports these results in the journal NanoLetters. The paper is titled "Single Molecule Tracking on Supported Membranes with Arrays of Optical Nanoantennas." Co-authoring the paper were Theo Lohmuller, Lars Iversen, Mark Schmidt, Christopher Rhodes, Hsiung-Lin Tu and Wan-Chen Lin.
Fluorescent emissions, in which biomolecules of interest are tagged with dyes that fluoresce when stimulated by light, and Raman spectroscopy, in which the scattering of light by molecular vibrations is used to identify and locate biomolecules, are work-horse optical imaging techniques whose value has been further enhanced by the emergence of plasmonics. In plasmonics, light waves are squeezed into areas with dimensions smaller than half-the-wavelength of the incident photons, making it possible to apply optical imaging techniques to nanoscale objects such as biomolecules. Nano-sized gold particles in the
shape of triangles that are paired in a tip-to-tip formation, like a bow-tie, can serve as optical antennas, capturing and concentrating light waves into well-defined hot spots, where the plasmonic effect is greatly amplified. Although the concept is well-established, applying it to biomolecular studies has been a challenge because gold particle arrays must be fabricated with well-defined nanometer spacing, and molecules of interest must be delivered to plasmonic hot-spots."We're able to fabricate billions of gold nanoantennas in an artificial membrane through a combination of colloid lithography and plasma processing," Groves says. "Controlled spacing of the nanoantenna gaps is achieved by taking advantage of the fact that polystyrene particles melt together at their contact point during plasma processing. The result is well-defined spacing between each pair of gold triangles in the final array with a tip-to-tip distance between neighboring gold nanotriangles measuring in the 5-to-100 nanometer range."
Until now, Groves says, it has not been possible to decouple the size of the gold nanotriangles, which determines their surface plasmon resonance frequency, from the tip-to-tip distance between the individual nanoparticle features, which is responsible for enhancing the plasmonic effect. With their colloidal lithography approach, a self-assembling hexagonal monolayer of polymer spheres is used to shadow mask a substrate for subsequent deposition of the gold nanoparticles. When the colloidal mask is removed, what remains are large arrays of gold nanoparticles and triangles over which the artificial membrane can be formed.
The unique artificial membranes, which Groves and his research group developed earlier, are another key to the success of this latest achievement. Made from a fluid bilayer of lipid molecules, these membranes are the first biological platforms that can combine fixed nanopatterning with the mobility of fluid bilayers. They provide an unprecedented capability for the study of how the spatial patterns of chemical and physical properties on membrane surfaces influence the behavior of cells.
"When we embed our artificial membranes with gold nanoantennas we can trace the trajectories of freely diffusing individual proteins as they sequentially pass through and are enhanced by the multiple gaps between the triangles," Groves says. "This allows us to study a realistic system, like a cell, which can involve billions of molecules, without the static entrapment of the molecules."
As molecules in living cells are generally in a state of perpetual motion, it is often their movement and interactions with other molecules rather than static positions that determine their functions within the cell. Groves says that any technique requiring direct adsorption of a molecule of interest onto a nanoantenna intrinsically removes that molecule from the functioning ensemble that is the essence of its natural behavior. The technique he and his co-authors have developed allows them to look at individual biomolecules but within the context of their surrounding community.
"The idea that optical nanoantennas can produce the kinds of enhanced signals we are observing has been known for years but this is the first time that nanoantennas have been fabricated into a fluid membrane so that we can observe every molecule in the system as it passes through the antenna array," Groves says. "This is more than a proof-of-concept we've shown that we now have a useful new tool to add to our repertoire."

Shaka Smart staying at VCU; Illini search moves on
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) ? Shaka Smart says he will stay at Virginia Commonwealth.
Illinois had offered its coaching job to Smart, according to multiple reports.
In a statement released by VCU on Wednesday, the 34-year-old Smart said: "I'm looking forward to building on the successes of our program and university."
Illinois athletic director Mike Thomas declined comment through a spokesman.
Thomas fired Weber on March 9 after a 17-15 season that ended with a 2-14 slump. Weber's teams missed three of the last five NCAA tournaments and this year didn't make the postseason at all.
Smart's Rams were the darlings of last year's tournament, going from the First Four to the Final Four after barely making it in as a No. 11 seed. They lost to Indiana in this season's third round Saturday.

UK must tighten grip on Afghan aid programme - watchdog
LONDON (Reuters) - Britain must tighten oversight of its aid programme to Afghanistan, worth hundreds of millions of pounds a year, to lessen the risk of losing the money to theft, fraud or corruption, the country's aid watchdog said on Thursday.
Overseas aid is one of the few areas that has been ring-fenced by Britain's coalition government, which has slashed spending elsewhere to tackle a big budget deficit.
But polls show many Britons disagree with protecting foreign aid when many domestic services are being cut. That has made the government determined to show it is getting value for money.
The Independent Commission for Aid Impact, set up by the government last year to ensure its overseas aid budget is well spent, gave London's Afghanistan aid programme an "amber-red" mark, meaning the scheme is "not performing well" and needs "significant improvements."
The British government, which has long said it would withdraw the bulk of its 9,500 troops fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan by the end of 2014, describes the country as "one of the UK's top foreign policy priorities."
It is the world's fourth-largest donor to Afghanistan, channelling 178 million pounds ($280 million) a year to the country for each of the four years from 2011-12.
The watchdog said the British government did not have sufficiently robust financial and performance monitoring systems in place to manage its programmes in Afghanistan.
"As a result, DFID (Britain's Department for International Development) is exposed to a significant risk of leakage," it said, defining leakage as "the loss or diversion of aid monies away from the intended beneficiaries as a result of theft, fraud or corruption."
While the report did not cite any examples of money going astray, it said DFID needed to strengthen its grip and reduce risk by deploying people with more financial and procurement skills.
The watchdog said claims that there was little or no diversion of British aid money "cannot be sustained" and said DFID was not proactive enough in detecting fraud and corruption.
Corruption is common at all levels of Afghan society. In December, a survey by Berlin-based graft watchdog Transparency International rated Afghanistan one of the world's most corrupt countries, ranked equally with Myanmar, and only slightly cleaner than North Korea and Somalia.
Britain channels its Afghan aid through a World Bank fund and through the Asian Development Bank as well as to programmes in Helmand province in southern Afghanistan where the bulk of British troops are based.
Responding to the watchdog's report, a DFID spokesman said: "UK support in Afghanistan is playing a key role in improving the lives of people who remain amongst the poorest in the world, helping to get children into school and improving healthcare."
"We accept that?in such a?challenging environment there are always things we can do better," he said.
Overseas aid is one of the few areas of British government spending set to rise. DFID's budget is set to grow from 7.8 billion pounds in the current financial year to 11.1 billion in 2014/15.

Child killed, 7 relatives injured in Wyo. crash
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) ? The Highway Patrol says a 6-year-old girl is dead and seven of her relatives are injured following a rollover crash on Interstate 80 in southwestern Wyoming.
Sgt. Stephen Townsend says Dynasty X. Barcenas of Plainfield, Ill., died following the crash around 3:30 a.m. Friday in Sweetwater County.
He says in a press release that a car driven by 24-year-old Daniel Rebarchek of Wheatland, Wyo., hit the rear end of an SUV carrying the child and eight of her relatives, and the vehicle went off the road and rolled over.
Townsend says everyone in the SUV except the driver ? 37-year-old Sourisack Sounthonevichith ? were ejected. The driver escaped injury but all others were taken to area hospitals, but the patrol had no word on conditions.
Townsend says Rebarcheck didn't stop and was arrested a couple hours later. He faces several charges including aggravated vehicular homicide.
Dynasty's family ? three adults and the rest children ? was en route from Illinois to California for a wedding. The patrol didn't further detail their relationships.
