MP backing drive to stop Bradford on Avon golf housing

MP backing drive to stop Bradford on Avon golf housing

A campaign to save Bradford on Avon golf course is gaining speed, with MP Duncan Hames meeting protesters to sign a petition.

Mr Hames met campaigners at the course to sign the Keep the Golf Course Green petition, which now has more than 600 signatures.

He pledged himself to the campaign to prevent developers building there.

It is the third time in less than five years that developers have eyed up the land.

The campaign was set up last month, after residents became aware of a Barratt Homes plan to challenge the draft Wiltshire Core Strategy on future housing figures for Bradford on Avon.

Campaign organiser Marion Collett, of Mythern Meadow, said: ?We have been around the town with the petition and will be putting information leaflets through people?s doors.?

Town mayor John Potter also signed the petition at last week?s meeting, as well as his deputy, Paul Skidmore.

Cllr Potter said: ?The golf course is used by a lot of people, but it is another piece of green space that could be swallowed up. Hopefully, this will have an effect.?
