"Haven't heard enough from the Greens over the issue, i suppose it's the wrong time of year and all that but I worry they've convieniently forgotten about a section of their supported base."
About five years ago the greens were actively working on medical cannabis, by meeting with and canvasing medicinal users - and they are outspoken about being against the recent legal high bans, such as dunnes temp ban, party pills, synth cannabis and so forth.
They have an established policy regarding cannabis (basically, fully legal to grow and smoke), and a general philsophy regarding lower harm drugs, that is always represented what they vote and fight for in parliment.
Its just that there is public image effects of previously putting that in the total foreground. Mainstream voters are happy with these veiws, but the greens were previously perceived as politically "narrow" in both policy and membership, which they never were.
Like they also still have strong environmental policy, and still vote for that, but they are more publically pushing the more social justice and economic side of things.
This is not a policy direction change at all, its about gaining a more mainstream support base, by letting the public know they are a well rounded party, with more policy, stability, leadership and direction than people once mistakenly thought.
Its not at all that they have changed their battlefeilds, or their policy or focus, its just they are very focused, and rightly so, on letting the public know they aren't a one trick pony.
Basically, they still very much fight for the drug reform cause.
They just don't draw as much attention to it, so they can be seen to focus more on their publically less well known policies and philosophies and perceived as the well rounded party they are.
