CU Buffs football player agrees to deal in frat party trespassing case

Samson Kafovalu, the University of Colorado football player ticketed Feb. 22 on suspicion of trying to force his way into a fraternity party and threatening a security guard, worked out an agreement Tuesday with city prosecutors that may lead to the charges against him being dropped, officials say.

Kafovalu, 19, was issued a summons on charges of threatening bodily injury, trespassing, use of fighting words and consumption of alcohol by a minor in connection with the incident outside the Kappa Sigma house, 1100 Pennsylvania Ave.

The Buffs' freshman defensive lineman appeared in Boulder Municipal Court on Tuesday and agreed to a deal with prosecutors, according to court administrator James Cho. Kafovalu has agreed to perform 24 hours of community service, pay $160 in court fees, and participate in an alcohol education class and community living class. If he completes the classes and is not involved in a similar incident over the next year, all of the charges will be dropped, Cho said.

According to a police report, a security guard at the Kappa Sigma house called police at about 11:30 p.m. Feb. 22 to report that Kafovalu had tried to force his way into a party and at one point yelled, "I'll (expletive) kill you."

Recruited out of California, Kafovalu played in 10 games in his freshman year for CU in 2012, recording 20 tackles and one sack.

David Plati, CU Athletic Department spokesman, said Kafovalu will have to appear at a hearing before the university's Office of Student Conduct.
