Holmes announces new head football coach

COVINGTON, KENTUCKY (FOX19)- Holmes High School announced the hire of a new head football coach on Monday.

Ben Nevels, who previously worked as an assistant coach at Holmes and Lloyd Memorial High School for past nine years, will now serve as head coach.

Nevels is a special education teacher at Holmes, with a bachelor's degree from Eastern Kentucky University and a master's from the University of the Cumberlands. He played football at both Campbellsville and Eastern Kentucky University, and is a graduate of Simon Kenton High School.

"We are very pleased to have Ben take the leadership of our program," said Athletic Director Stan Steidel. "He is a top notch coach and a very good school teacher."

Holmes Principal Dennis Maines described Nevels as the right fit for the program.

"We're excited," Maines said. "He brings a lot of energy and talent. His style is going to take our program in the right direction.''

Nevels replaces Terry Liggin as head coach, who resigned earlier this year.
